Frankfurt – There will be no Bendtner transfer

Frankfurt have declared that they will not be signing Nicklas Bendtner leaving us all in no doubt now over the move.

Sporting director Bruno Hubner said

There will be no transfer.

Arsenal have been informed of Frankfurt’s decision.

As we reported earlier, Bendtner’s wages were the main sticking point and it seems as if the Dane has gone from having five clubs agreeing terms with Arsenal and wanting to sign him to having none which is quite the effort.

It is now not clear what the future holds for Bendtner. If he was unable to agree wages with a number of clubs and Malaga had issues over his off-field character is he likely to find an agreement with another club? [Malaga have just announced the signing of Roque Santa Cruz anyway].

In the end it could be Arsenal who once again have to subsidise his wages as he goes out on loan and his contract runs down. I thought he had another two years left on his deal but it seems as if it could just be one in which case paying him off might be an option like we did with Denilson.

Of course, this is their own fault. Arsenal rewarded Bendtner before he merited such wages and he is content to just collect his paycheque. Playing football seems to be very low down on his list of priorities.

By the time Bendtner’s Arsenal contract expires he will be 26 and what he doesn’t seem to realise is that his wage prospects probably won’t improve without him putting in the effort. Here he had the chance to take a pay cut and prove himself in one of the top European leagues which could have earned him a bigger move.

For now, however, Arsenal are stuck with him.
